D2 Technologies Launches ARM VoIP Solution on TI OMAP Platforms; Flexible Virtual Design for Voice Processes.


SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- D2 Technologies announces today that its vPort(TM) VoIP software has been implemented on the ARM926e RISC processor embedded within the Texas Instruments OMAP Texas Instruments OMAP is a Texas Instruments proprietary microprocessor for multimedia applications. This allows fully-featured VoIP applications to be offered with or without the need for DSP (1) (Digital Signal Processor) A special-purpose CPU used for digital signal processing applications (see definition #2 below). It provides ultra-fast instruction sequences, such as shift and add, and multiply and add, which are commonly used in math-intensive  hardware, resulting in a flexible virtual DSP design that can address a wide variety of applications.

. In other applications where the ARM processor is needed for high level functions, the voice signal processing subsystem of vPORT can be executed on the attached DSP on the OMAP1710. Introduced three years ago, D2's vPort software is deployed in residential end-point products, and is designed for CPE (Customer Premises Equipment) Communications equipment that resides on the customer's premises.

ARM Processors Make Efficient Use of Silicon

The Texas Instruments OMAP 1710 is an effective platform for use in handsets for single-mode WiFi applications or dual-mode WiFi/cellular applications. Its unique multi-engine design provides software/hardware accelerators for improved multimedia and graphics performance. Plus the 1710 has integrated hardware and software security features and ultra-low standby power consumption.
