D.O.E. OFFERS FREE TRAINING FOR PARENTS OF STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS
 BOSTON, April 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Parents of children with special needs are invited to attend free half-day workshops at six sites across the Commonwealth during the month of May.
 The invitations are extended by the Massachusetts Department of Education, the sponsoring agency.
 The intent of the training is to improve communications between families and school systems around special education issues and to provide parents with updated information about the State Advisory Commission, the Department of Education, Chapter 766 regulations, and the resources available to parent advisory councils.
 The workshops also will include panel discussions on parent/school partnerships.
 Workshops will be held at the following sites on May 2 and May 16 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.:
 May 2
 Szetela Early Childhood Center
 Macek Drive, Chicopee
 Northeast Metropolitan Vocational School
 Hemlock Road, Wakefield
 Blue Hills Regional Vocational School
 Randolph Street, Canton
 Middleborough High School
 East Grove Street, Middleborough
 May 16
 McCann Regional Vocational School
 North Adams
 Hogan Campus Center
 Holy Cross College, Worcester
 "We're urging parents to attend one of the workshops," said Roberta Guillerm, state coordinator of the training. "The program will provide an overview of the latest issues in special education and provide a great opportunity for families of children with special needs to get together and network."
 To register for a workshop, contact Terry Hamilton, Division of Special Education, at 617-770-7233 on or before April 27.
