D.A. Davidson & Co. Provides Nearly $1 Million to Student Investors; Brokerage Kicks off Its 19th Annual Student Investment Program.

GREAT FALLS, Mont. -- D.A. Davidson & Co., a Northwest-based investment firm, today announced the launch of its 19th annual Student Investment Program designed to give senior-level business students a hands-on education in investing and portfolio management.

Students from 19 colleges and universities within the Northwest and Rocky Mountain regions will receive nearly $1 million total to invest in the markets over the course of the year. Unlike programs that offer simulated investing experiences, these students will use real money, pay execution costs and earn interest on cash and dividends on securities. Most importantly, the schools will share in the profits.

"We want to give students an opportunity to gain a real-life understanding of the markets, and believe that the best way to do that is to use real money - it raises the stakes," said Ron Tschetter, president of D.A. Davidson & Co. "Because these schools have the opportunity to share in the profits earned, there is a huge incentive to participate and to do as well as possible."

Under the program, D.A. Davidson & Co. provides a team of business students from each school with $50,000 to invest in actual market transactions. The students make investment decisions with a D.A. Davidson & Co. financial consultant as advisor, and each school receives one-half of its investment return above 5 percent. D.A. Davidson & Co. absorbs any losses.

The Student Investment Program was launched in 1985 at Montana State University Montana State University, at Bozeman; land-grant; coeducational; chartered 1893.
