D.A. Davidson & Co., the largest full-service brokerage firm based in the greater Pacific Northwest, is planning its Third Annual Financial Services Conference from Wednesday, May 9, through Thursday, May 10, at the W Hotel in Seattle.

The conference will highlight trends influencing the financial services sector, from e-finance and the use of the Internet as a distribution platform to accounting rule changes regarding goodwill that are expected to be in effect this summer.

More than 200 people from across the West -- including executives from industries that range from banking to e-finance enterprises, government officials and members of the public -- are expected to attend the conference to hear presentations from almost 20 Northwest-based financial services companies.

Wednesday's agenda includes a presentation by Mary Ann Hurley, Vice President, Fixed Income Trading for D.A. Davidson & Co., who will discuss the outlook for interest rates. That day's schedule also includes two fixed income portfolio strategy sessions (Bonds Are Back! and The Federal Surplus Outlook -- An Evaluation) and a panel discussion on changes in the financial industry landscape resulting from new accounting regulations. D.A. Davidson & Co. conference organizers expect presenting bank executives to give an overview of how their firms are maneuvering through the current economic environment and positioning their firms for market expansion and growth through continued consolidation. Bank executives also are expected to discuss how recent market volatility and the slowdown of the U.S. economy have created challenges that include declines in consumer spending, rising credit losses and the effects of interest rate declines on home mortgages and mortgage stocks.

The conference begins each day with continental breakfast at 7:30 a.m., with presentations starting at 8:30 a.m. A group lunch is sponsored Wednesday by Wells Fargo & Co. (WFC) and Thursday by Washington Mutual (WM). A cocktail reception will follow the programs Wednesday.
