Networking solutions provider D-Link is shipping the 4-Bay Network Storage Enclosure (DNS-343), a secure solution for storing and accessing documents across the network and over the Internet.

According to the company, the DNS-343 has been designed to enhance file sharing and secure important data. The product, which can operate in a variety of drive configurations including Standard, JBOD (Just a Bunch Of Disks) A group of hard disks in a computer that are not set up as any type of RAID configuration. They are just a bunch of disks.

, RAID 0, 1 and 5, offers customers flexibility when configuring their data safeguard strategy. In addition, it supports Microsoft Active Directory, which SMBs will find useful to integrate the device into their Windows network.

The enclosure is designed to accommodate up to four SATA (Serial ATA) A serial version of the ATA (IDE) interface, which has been the de facto standard hard disk interface for desktop PCs for more than two decades. The original Parallel ATA (PATA) interface was launched in 1986.  drives that can be inserted without any tools or attaching cables. In addition, it is scalable, allowing users to start with one SATA hard disk drive (HDD) and add three more to accommodate growth. It also offers an OLED, which displays important information including IP address, hard drive statistics, temperature, RAID status and server status.

The product provides a range of data protection options to help avoid data loss due to hard drive failure. It offers simplified management software, enabling users to create schedules and rules including real-time full or incremental backups and storage quotas for specific user groups. The included Memeo backup software allows users to automatically safeguard data on to the DNS-343 to create a protection solution from accidental data loss on the PC.

The enclosure features a USB port that can act as a print server port, allowing a USB printer to be added to the network without the need for a dedicated computer. The USB port can also support an Uninterruptible Universal Power Supply (UPS) monitor that supports smart signalling over a USB USB
