D-Day for school.


Parents and staff at Northern Counties have been told that the fate of their school will be decided next month.

Governors will announce their decision after a meeting on March 31.

Northern Counties chairman of governors, Kevan Carrick, said: "Over the next two months we will be looking at all the possible options to try to keep the school open.

"We hope that on March 31 we will have some good news and the school will stay open."

The campaign to keep the school open has received support from MPs, health experts and education bosses at Newcastle Council.

Labour MP for Newcastle Central, Jim Cousins James Mackay Cousins, known as Jim Cousins, (born February 23, 1944, Shepherd's Bush, London) is a politician in the United Kingdom. He is member of Parliament for Newcastle-upon-Tyne Central, and is a member of the ruling Labour Party. , welcomed the campaign, saying he would be bringing Northern Counties School to the Government's attention. He said: "I have visited it and seen facilities such as the hydrotherapy hydrotherapy, use of water in the treatment of illness or injury. Although the medicinal and hygienic value of water was recognized by the early Greeks, hydrotherapy attained its widest use in the 18th and 19th cent.  pool and this is something that we can't lose.

"It is right the Government tries to keep as many children as possible in mainstream education, but there are some with complex needs that can't be supported in a normal school. We need to ensure we don't lose such a valuable asset."
