Cytyc Corporation Announces Executive Promotions; Dan Levangie Named Chief Operating Officer.

BOXBOROUGH, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 1, 2001

Cytyc Corporation (Nasdaq:CYTC) today announced the promotion of Daniel J. Levangie to executive vice president and chief operating officer Chief Operating Officer (COO)

The officer of a firm responsible for day-to-day management, usually the president or an executive vice-president.
. Mr. Levangie will oversee worldwide business activities, including sales, marketing, manufacturing, engineering, research and development, and customer service. His promotion was approved by Cytyc's Board of Directors this week and is effective immediately.

"This is a well-deserved and well-earned promotion," said Patrick J. Sullivan, Cytyc's president and chief executive officer. "When Dan joined Cytyc in 1992, we had a six person sales team and a Pap test Pap test, Pap smear, or Papanicolaou test (păp'ənē`kəlou), medical procedure used to detect cancer of the uterine cervix.  market share of zero. Mr. Levangie has served in a number of key executive roles at Cytyc. Prior to joining Cytyc, Mr. Levangie held sales and marketing management positions at Abbott Laboratories Abbott Laboratories (NYSE: ABT) is a diversified pharmaceuticals and health care company. It has over 65,000 employees and operates in 130 countries. The corporate headquarters are in Abbott Park, Illinois, a neighborhood of North Chicago, Illinois. .

In addition, Cytyc's Board of Directors this week approved the appointment of C. William McDaniel William Mcdaniel (1801 - December 14, 1866) was a U.S. Representative from Missouri.

Born in Grayson County, Kentucky, Mcdaniel moved to Missouri in the late 1820s. He served as member of the State senate in 1838 and 1840.
 and Patrick J. Sullivan to the position of vice chairmen of the Cytyc Board of Directors. Mr. McDaniel is currently a non-employee member of Cytyc's Board of Directors and was an early investor of Cytyc.
