CytoGenix Inc. Commences Animal Trials for Its Anti-Herpes DNA Formulation.

CytoGenix Inc. (OTCBB:CYGX) announced today that the first phase of its animal trials of its anti-herpes
herpes febri´lis  see h. simplex.
genital herpes , herpes genita´lis herpes simplex herpes simplex (hûr`pēz), an acute viral infection of the skin characterized by one or more painful, itching blisters filled with clear fluid. due to type 2 virus, primarily transmitted sexually via genital secretions and involving the genital region; in women, the vesicular stage may give rise to confluent, painful ulcerations and may be accompanied by neurologic symptoms.
 topical cream has begun. The study is comprised of 120 mice in eight groups. Mice are excellent herpes disease models because they die within a few weeks after infection if left untreated. Preliminary results are expected within 30 days.

"These trials will demonstrate safety and pharmacologic pharmacologic /phar·ma·co·log·ic/ (-kah-loj´ik) pertaining to pharmacology or to the properties and reactions of drugs. effectiveness prior to human studies. In addition, we are testing our formulation for use as a prophylactic (preventative) as well as a therapeutic for long term cure," states Dr. Malcolm Skolnick, CytoGenix' president/CEO. "Existing herpes treatments do not meet the needs of the millions of sufferers of this debilitating and highly infectious disease. Follow-on studies in human subjects should prove the formulation's safety and effectiveness as a long-term treatment," adds Dr. Skolnick.

While genital herpes continues to spread across all social, economic, racial and ethnic boundaries, prevalence of infection increased most dramatically in teens and young adults. The disease is potentially fatal in newborns and can be particularly severe in people with HIV infection. HSV-2 infection is more common in women (approximately one out of four women) than in men (almost one out of five)."
