This is as compared to $6,545 contributed by the next highest earning team. A total of $55,463 was raised for the Vaccine Center at Emory University. Team Hope was told by the Center's staff that the Action Cycling 200 event is Emory's single largest fundraising event of the year with 100% of the money going directly to research. Gustave Thomas served as Captain of the Team Hope cyclists. He and John Beal, another member of the team, are on the Board of Action Cycling in Atlanta, the non-profit organization that promotes the annual fundraising and HIV/AIDS HIV/AIDS Human Immunodeficiency Virus/Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome awareness event. Tom Godfrey, another member of the team, told CytoDyn that the performance of Team Hope was not the best in terms of athletic prowess but did excel in raising research funds, which is what the event was all about. CytoDyn's targeted immune therapy for HIV/AIDS is unrelated to the work being done at Emory, and the Company's anticipated vaccine projects are centered at a different university.
