Cyrix Announces P200 PC, First to Break 100 on Winstone 96 Benchmark; Cyrix Advances the Standards For Desktop Computing With Full Line of 6x86 Processor-Based PCs.

At the same time, Cyrix announced that its high-end 6x86-P200 system configuration scored a record-breaking 100.5 on the widely-accepted Winstone 96 benchmark suite.

"These systems demonstrate Cyrix's abilities in both processor and system design to advance PC performance standards," said Steve Lapinski, General Manager of the Cyrix Systems Group. "As outlined 60 days ago, Cyrix's strategy is to set the performance pace and enable rapid market availability of our 6x86 processor technology for the benefit of all manufacturers designing 6x86-based PCs."

Targeted at individuals and small- to medium-sized businesses that use performance-intensive applications, the new computers are powered by the fastest processor in the Cyrix 6x86 family -- the 6x86-P200+ processor.

"To ensure the 6x86-P200+ processor was available in systems that optimize its performance, we assumed responsibility for P200 system design," said Ed Ellett, director of product marketing for the Cyrix Systems Group. Cyrix's direct marketing organization will begin taking orders immediately with volume shipments to begin this month. The new Cyrix 6x86-P200 systems are built to customer order, and configurations start at $2,699.
