Cyprus trade deficit shrinks to EUR 3 bln in first half--update.

Preliminary trade deficit of EUR 364 mln in July The Statistical Service of Cyprus has announced the publication of the monthly report "Intra-Extra E.U Trade Statistics (Summarised Data)" for June 2009, showing that the trade deficit fell to EUR 3 bln in the first half of 2009 , compared with EUR 2.3 bln in the same period of 2008.

The main developments in Cyprus foreign trade were as follows.

Total imports/arrivals (covering total imports from third countries and arrivals from other member states) in January-June 2009 amounted to EUR 2,785.2 mln, compared with EUR 3,593.5 mln in January-June 2008.

Total exports/dispatches (covering total exports to third countries and dispatches to other member states) in January-June 2009 amounted to EUR 478.1 mln, compared with EUR 590.7 mln in January-June 2008.

The trade deficit was EUR 2,307.0 mln in January-June 2009 compared with EUR 3,002.8 mln in January-June 2008.

During June 2009 total imports/arrivals (covering total imports from third countries and arrivals from other member states) valued at EUR 472.5 mln.

Total exports/dispatches (covering total exports to third countries and dispatches to other member states), including stores and provisions, in June 2009 amounted to EUR 82.1 mln.

[eth]oxports/dispatches of domestically produced goods, including stores and provisions, reached EUR 37.0 mln whilst exports/dispatches of foreign goods, including stores and provisions, were recorded at EUR 45.0 mln.

Meanwhile, preliminary data for July report a trade deficit of EUR 364 mln.

Total imports/ arrivals of EUR 445.4 mln, of which EUR 307.7 mln were arrivals from other member states of the EU and EUR 137.6 mln imports from third countries.

Total exports/dispatches were EUR 81.4 mln of which EUR 48.8 mln were dispatches to other member states of the EU and EUR 32.7 mln exports to third countries.
