:CYPR) Friday announced that Virgil Thompson, 56, has been elected to its board of directors, replacing Dr. Lewis Sarett who has retired from the board after three years of service.

Thompson spent the majority of his career at Syntex Corp. where he rose to the position of president of Syntex Laboratories. At Syntex he was responsible for a $1.2 billion portfolio of products. His experience in product launch is evidenced by products such as TORADOL, TICLID, Synerel and Cytovene. Thompson is currently the chief executive officer of Cytel Corp. in San Diego.

Cypros Pharmaceutical develops and markets acute-care, hospital- based products. The company's pre-clinical and clinical development programs focus on cytoprotective drugs designed to reduce ischemia (low blood flow) induced tissue damage in acute care settings.
