) at the Parkside Hall in San Jose, California San Jose (IPA: /ˌsænhoʊˈzeɪ/) is the third-largest city in California, and the tenth-largest in the United States. It is the county seat of Santa Clara County.  from October 18-20, 2005. Expert architects and engineers will provide technical details on how Cypress alleviates packet-processing bottlenecks with highly scalable solutions that deliver the industry's best performance and highest density, with low cost and power consumption.

With line rates scaling above 10Gbps, the adoption of the IPv6 protocol and systems becoming more complex, there is a need to support large density lookup tables and to handle multiple lookups per packet to support more features per system. This means that today's search sub-systems need to offer high performance, higher density solutions that are scalable to support next-generation needs at the lowest cost and power. Cypress's portfolio of Ternary Content-Addressable Memory (TCAM (TeleCommunications Access Method) IBM communications software widely used to transfer data between mainframes and 3270 terminals. See access method. ) and Algorithmic NSEs, the industry's broadest, offers customers these performance, density and scalability advantages. The Ayama(TM) 10000, Ayama 20000 and Sahasra(TM) 50000 NSEs work seamlessly together along with the Cynapse(TM) Software Platform and can provide customers the capability to design for next generation performance and density requirements today at the lowest cost and power.

Cypress will demonstrate the industry's first Algorithmic NSE, the Sahasra 50000 in booth #307 on Wednesday, October 19 from 12:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Thursday, October 20 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Cypress's Sahasra 50000 NSE, which is in full production, combines the ease of use of a TCAM with the increased routing capacity and low power of an algorithmic search solution. Compared to traditional TCAM or DRAM-based search engines, Cypress's Sahasra 50000 NSE provides significant capacity and performance improvements for lookup applications while minimizing cost and power per route.

The technical session on Thursday, October 20 at 2:00 p.m. will address solutions for advanced packet classification using TCAMs. Anand Rangarajan, a software engineering manager and systems architect at Cypress, will present papers on methods to reduce the density explosion when encoding range rules in TCAMs. These methods offer higher density, as well as the ability to retrieve all matches per search in a TCAM, allowing for more features to be supported in the system at a higher performance level.

Cypress's Complete Packet Processing Solution

Cypress's search solution includes a comprehensive portfolio of products to address all segments of the search market. In addition to its highly successful TCAM-based solutions (Ayama 10000 and Ayama 20000 NSEs), Cypress is the only vendor to also offer an algorithmic SRAM-based forwarding search engine (Sahasra 50000) to address the search needs of systems requiring large forwarding tables of more than 1 million table entries. The Ayama 20000 NSEs are the first of their kind to offer a FastLink(TM) cascaded interface; a heterogeneous interface for optimized search subsystems which when combined with Cypress's easy-to-use Cynapse software enables seamless inter-working of Cypress NSE families, including both TCAM-based NSEs and algorithmic-based NSEs. Cypress's comprehensive NSE portfolio has been adopted by leading vendors in the router, L2/L3 switch, CMTS (Cable Modem Termination System) A computerized device that enables cable modems to send and receive packets over the Internet. It inserts IP packets from the Internet into MPEG frames and transmits them to the cable modems via an RF signal. , DSLAM (DSL Access Multiplexor) A central office (CO) device for ADSL service that intermixes voice traffic and DSL traffic onto a customer's DSL line. It also separates incoming phone and data signals and directs them onto the appropriate carrier's network. See DSL.  and storage area network (SAN) segments.
