:CY) is sampling two new 3.3V Neuron(R) chips for LonWorks(R) devices that deliver up to two times the memory of 5V pin-compatible alternatives while reducing power consumption by 33 percent. Attendees of the LonWorld(R) 2003 Exhibition in Munich, Germany, October 15-16th, will be able to place orders for the new devices at Cypress's booth.

Cypress's CY7C53120L8 and CY7C53150L chips enable sensors and actuators used in LonWorks-based building and home automation, industrial control, utility monitoring and transportation automation solutions to be networked and connected to the Internet. The new low-power controllers are supported by Echelon Corporation's (Nasdaq:ELON) NodeBuilder(R) 3.1 Development Tool.

The UART and SPI enable a faster, more reliable interface to downstream components, while the programmable LVI allows customers to set voltage trip thresholds that reference the noise level, while reducing external components. "Additionally, the market demand for greater on-board memory has been rapidly increasing because of the added functionality and lower costs afforded by such designs. The new devices address this demand and give designers more flexibility with regard to memory partitioning and the complexity of applications they can run."

Cypress's ANSI/EIA709.1B-compliant, low-power components are available in two distinct formats. The CY7C53120L8 features 16 KBytes of ROM, 4 KBytes of RAM and 8 KBytes of internal EEPROM (Electrically Erasable Programmable ROM) A rewritable memory chip that holds its content without power. Although EEPROMs spawned flash memory, EEPROMs are byte addressable at the write level, whereas flash chips must erase a block of bytes before rewriting.  memory and is offered in 32-pin SOIC (Small Outline IC) A small-dimension, plastic, rectangular, surface mount chip package that uses gull-wing pins extending outward. The CY7C53150L incorporates 4 KBytes of RAM and 2.7 KBytes of EEPROM memory and uses an external memory interface that can address up to 56 KBytes. It is available in 64-pin and 100-pin TQFP packages. Both devices feature three eight-bit pipelined processors that enable concurrent processing of application code and network traffic at speeds of up to 20 MHz (MegaHertZ) One million cycles per second. It is used to measure the transmission speed of electronic devices, including channels, buses and the computer's internal clock. A one-megahertz clock (1 MHz) means some number of bits (16, 32, 64, etc. . They also offer an 11-pin configurable I/O block and a flexible five-pin communications port that can be configured to interface with a wide variety of 5V and 3.3V media transceivers over a wide range of data rates.

To facilitate communication with other devices using the ANSI/EIA709.1B protocol, the CY7C53120L8 and CY7C53150L feature new system firmware from Echelon. Development support is provided by Echelon's NodeBuilder 3.1 Development Tool with Service Pack 1, which simplifies LonWorks network configuration and significantly reduces development time. The NodeBuilder tool makes it simple to install and test LonWorks devices within functional networks. It also automatically generates source code, compiles and builds applications, and incorporates an integrated editor and source-level debugger for rapid code development.
