Mentor's LeonardoSpectrum(TM) Synthesis Integrates With Cypress's

Warp(TM) To Support Designers Using Cypress Quantum38K

Programmable Devices in Communications Systems

Cypress Semiconductor Cypress Semiconductor is a semiconductor design and manufacturing company. It began operations in 1982 and listed publicly in 1986. Two years later, the company shifted over to the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol, (NYSE: CY).  (NYSE NYSE

:CY) today announced that the LeonardoSpectrum(TM) design synthesis tool from Mentor Graphics Mentor Graphics, Inc (NASDAQ: MENT) is a US-based multinational corporation dealing in electronic design automation (EDA) for electrical engineering and electronics, as of 2004, ranked third in the EDA industry it helped create.  has been integrated with Cypress's Warp(TM) Release 6.3 development environment to support designs using the Cypress Quantum38K(TM) family of CPLDs. VHDL allows models to be developed at a very high level of abstraction.  or Verilog designers now have the option of using either the Mentor Graphics LeonardoSpectrum or the Cypress Warp development environment to optimize their CPLD (Complex PLD) A programmable logic device that is made up of several simple PLDs (SPLDs) with a programmable switching matrix in between the logic blocks. CPLDs typically use EEPROM, flash memory or SRAM to hold the logic design interconnections. See PLD and SPLD.  designs for communications systems.

"Support for Quantum38K from Mentor Graphics allows Cypress customers to have access to a leading synthesis tool for our newest family of communications CPLDs," said Geoff Charubin, Director of Marketing for Cypress's Data Communications Division. "Our goal is to allow designers to target a Cypress CPLD with any synthesis tool they are comfortable with, while they take advantage of Warp Software's advanced fitting algorithms and analysis tools."

LeonardoSpectrum's support, previously provided for Cypress's Flash370i(TM), Ultra37000(TM) and Delta39K(TM) CPLDs, combines push-button (electronics) push-button - A roughly fingertip-sized plastic cover attached to a spring-loaded, normally-open switch, which, when pressed, closes the switch. Typical examples are the keys on a computer or calculator keyboard and mouse buttons.  ease-of-use with the powerful control and optimization features in a fast, efficient synthesis environment. LeonardoSpectrum replaces arithmetic, relational and memory operators with models optimized for Cypress CPLDs. Warp then builds the most efficient circuit using advanced fitting algorithms and user preferences.

"Mentor Graphics customers now have access to another leading CPLD family for their designs," said Simon Bloch, general manager for the Mentor Graphics Synthesis Business Unit. "We are committed to providing synthesis support for Cypress CPLD families to minimize designers' development time and cost using our tools and their products."

About the Quantum38K Family

The Quantum38K family of CPLDs offers designers a range of devices with 30,000 to 100,000 gates with 512 to 1536 macrocells and 16 to 48 Kbits of embedded memory, all in a simple migration path of compatible footprints. In addition, the family is footprint compatible with Cypress's Delta39K CPLD Family which allows an additional migration path to features such as increased speed options, additional I/O (Input/Output) The transfer of data between the CPU and a peripheral device. Every transfer is an output from one device and an input to another. See PC input/output.

standard support, Phase Locked Loops (PLLs) and increased memory. High density Quantum38K CPLDs offer the industry's lowest standby power and operate at either 2.5 or 3.3V. Their programmable I/O structure allows them to interface with several other devices supporting different I/O standards and different operating voltages (1.8V to 3.3V) at the same time.
