Pestka-Schardt joined Cypress in 1994, serving as a director of employee relations, immigration law, staffing, HR operations, and international HR. Managing HR functions for Cypress locations worldwide, Pestka-Schardt established HR services in the company's Ireland Design Center and helped to staff its state-of-the-art assembly and test facility in Manila, the Philippines. Opened in 1996, the Manila facility now employs more than 1,000 people -- roughly a third of Cypress's worldwide workforce. Pestka-Schardt also co-developed a distributed-HR model, under which human resources personnel are accountable to individual department and product-line managers.

Before signing on at Cypress, Pestka-Schardt served as career-education and work-experience specialist at West Valley College, Saratoga, CA. Prior to that, she was human resources manager of Santa Clara, CA-based Gould AMI; and technical-training and university-relations administrator at Intel Corp. Pestka-Schardt has a BA in history from the University of California, Davis The University of California, Davis, commonly known as UC Davis, is one of the ten campuses of the University of California, and was established as the University Farm in 1905. .
