San Jose (sănəzā`, săn hōzā`), city (1990 pop. 782,248), seat of Santa Clara co., W central Calif.; founded 1777, inc. 1850.
, Calif. -- Cypress Semiconductor Cypress Semiconductor is a semiconductor design and manufacturing company. It began operations in 1982 and listed publicly in 1986. Two years later, the company shifted over to the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol, (NYSE: CY).  Corp. (NYSE NYSE

The CYONS1001G delivers unmatched speed and accuracy with low power consumption, using Cypress's patent-pending OptiCheck[TM] technology. It targets applications including high-performance gaming, precision graphic design, and high accuracy position detection.

The simple two-piece device has built-in laser eye safety management, eliminating the need for laser power calibration calibration /cal·i·bra·tion/ (kal?i-bra´shun) determination of the accuracy of an instrument, usually by measurement of its variation from a standard, to ascertain necessary correction factors.  during mouse assembly to reduce manufacturing cost. The technology's signal-processing load is independent of mouse speed; OvationONS sensors can simultaneously support full speed (50 inches per second) and full resolution (2800 counts-per-inch), maximizing the counts-per-second recorded by the mouse and avoiding the "deceleration deceleration /de·cel·er·a·tion/ (de-sel?er-a´shun) decrease in rate or speed.

early deceleration
" effect that hampers many sensors on the market today. In addition, OptiCheck uses a position-sampling rate as high as 40 kHz, allowing the OvationONS sensor to have instant response to changes in tracking direction or speed with significantly reduced latency.

"Our unique OptiCheck technology provides OvationONS laser navigation sensors with superior speed and resolution," said Shuo Zhang, vice president of Sales and Marketing for Cypress's Optical Navigation Operation. "The new CYONS1001G enables a user experience that is noticeably enhanced compared to mice made with other sensors."

The CYONS1001G laser sensor is part of Cypress's Human Interface Device (HID) portfolio, which includes the industry's leading line of USB controllers and WirelessUSB[TM] LP radio-on-a-chip devices. The sensor integrates seamlessly with these components to form the main building blocks of wired and wireless computer mice. The CYONS1001G and the Cypress WirelessUSB LP will combine to enable the lowest power consumption wireless gaming mouse available.

The OvationONS sensor family features Cypress's patented OptiCheck[TM] technology for a fundamentally different approach from traditional image capture/correlation techniques. OptiCheck uses a detection scheme that streamlines the signal-processing requirements, maximizing performance and reducing the sensor's power consumption, which is ideal for wireless gaming mice.

Key features of the CYONS1001G

* Highest hardware resolution of up to 2800 cpi (counts per inch) at a speed up to 50 inches per second

* Continuously variable resolution setting at any value between 400 and 2800 cpi, and can be set differently in X and Y directions

* Fast effective PC cursor (1) The symbol used to point to some element on screen. On Windows, Mac and other graphics-based screens, it is also called a "pointer," and it changes shape as it is moved with the mouse into different areas of the application.  speed of up to 140,000 cps (counts per second)

* State-of-the-art position sampling rate - 40,000 samples per second

* Native 16-bit X and 16-bit Y directional report rate from the sensor.

Price and Availability

The CYONS1001G is available for volume shipments now, priced at less than US$6.00 in volume shipments. A high-resolution photo of the sensor is available at www.cypress.com/lasermouse-photo.
