:CY), a world leader in timing technology solutions, today announced that it is hosting the JEDEC The division of the Electronic Industries Alliance (EIA) that deals with semiconductor standards (officially, the JEDEC Solid State Technology Association of EIA). JEDEC was formed in 1958 when the Joint Electron Tube Engineering Council (JETEC) split into two Joint Electron Device  Solid State Technology Association JC-16, -40, -42 Interim Meeting, July 14 and 15, 2003. The meeting -- open to JEDEC member companies -- will run from noon until 6:00 p.m. on Monday and from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Chaired by IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries) , the registered dual inline memory modules (DIMMs) task group is comprised of the JC-16, -40 and -42 standards committees. The task group will be working to define next-generation advanced memory buffers to enhance the capabilities of dual data rate (DDR (Double Data Rate) Refers to an SDRAM memory chip that increases performance by doubling the effective data rate of the frontside bus. For more details, see SDRAM.

) chipsets in registered DIMM applications. The goal of these advanced memory buffers will be to solve the peak bandwidth limitations beyond two DIMMs per channel in the current DDR II architecture and to allow for the larger memory capacity required by mid-range and high-end computer platforms.

"As a long-standing member of JEDEC, Cypress is honored to host the kick-off meeting for this critical task group," said Rob Raghavan, senior product marketing manager for Cypress's Timing Technology Division. "As an active participant in this task group, Cypress hopes to work with our esteemed colleagues and customers to resolve the DDR II bandwidth bottleneck issue and to help drive next-generation registered buffered DIMMs."

The JEDEC meeting will be held in the auditorium of Building 6 on the Cypress campus, 198 Champion Court, San Jose, California San Jose (IPA: /ˌsænhoʊˈzeɪ/) is the third-largest city in California, and the tenth-largest in the United States.
