Cypress Announces Clock Support for Intel's Next-Generation Pentium 4 Processor.

Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 8, 2003

Single-Chip Timing Solution Offers Industry's Lowest EMI (ElectroMagnetic Interference) An electrical disturbance in a system due to natural phenomena, low-frequency waves from electromechanical devices or high-frequency waves (RFI) from chips and other electronic devices. Allowable limits are governed by the FCC.

:CY), a world leader in timing technology solutions, today announced two new high-performance clock synthesizers, which support the recently announced next-generation Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 processor. The CY28409 and CY28405-2 employ the ideal Lexmark Spread Spectrum Modulation profile -- the most advanced spread spectrum technology in the industry -- to achieve the maximum reduction in electromagnetic interference (EMI). By using spread-spectrum technology to contain EMI emissions rather than conventional means, such as shielding, Cypress has significantly reduced overall system costs.

"Building on our close relationship and long history of designing clocks to meet Intel's latest chipset requirements, Cypress is able to provide the PC industry with the next generation in timing performance," said Nelson Arata, product marketing manager for Cypress's Timing Technology Division. "The CY28409 and CY28405-2 extend our PC industry leadership with timing solutions that address the needs of high-performance, next-generation chipset technologies."

Supporting standard clock frequencies up to 200 MHz (MegaHertZ) One million cycles per second. It is used to measure the transmission speed of electronic devices, including channels, buses and the computer's internal clock. A one-megahertz clock (1 MHz) means some number of bits (16, 32, 64, etc. , the CY28409 and CY28405-2 also include a fixed 100 MHz Serial Reference Clock (SRC (SouRCe) Contrast with DST, which is an abbreviation of "destination." ) to support Serial Hard Drive (S-ATA) technology. The differential SRC output boasts typical cycle-to-cycle jitter A flicker or fluctuation in a transmission signal or display image. The term is used in several ways, but it always refers to some offset of time and space from the norm. For example, in a network transmission, jitter would be a bit arriving either ahead or behind a standard clock cycle  well below 100 picoseconds, can be switched for 200 MHz operation, and doubles as the reference clock for PCI-Express(R). Serial ATA is the next generation in hard disk technology, slated to replace today's standard Parallel ATA interface.

Cypress offers an extensive family of frequency timing generators (FTGs) for PC desktop, notebook, and server platforms as well as emerging Internet appliance and handheld applications. The Cypress offering includes products with one to three PLLs and up to 32 output signals to support system, bus and peripheral frequencies on the motherboard. The Cypress motherboard FTGs are designed for high accuracy, low EMI and maximum output flexibility.
