The event will be held on Friday, December 14 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 198 Champion Court in San Jose. The goal is to raise more than one million pounds in food donations.

Featuring a half dozen artistic displays made from thousands of pounds of canned and packaged foods, Cypress's canned food sculpture contest draws awareness to the Second Harvest Food Bank's efforts to feed local families during the holidays. Several departments within Cypress compete against each other to construct the most unique sculpture using nonperishable foods collected during the food drive. Each sculpture is judged on a number of criteria including complexity, clarity, creativity, use of food, presentation of theme and percent of food content. Some sculptures feature live performers and mechanically moving elements to help accentuate the themes.

Previous winners of the Cypress contest have included a Las Vegas casino, a chess board with a remote controlled rook rook, term used for a common Eurasian bird (genus Corvus) of the family Corvidae (Crow family), smaller than the American crow. The jackdaw is a European species of the genus. Last year's winner, the casino, along with the 2005-winning chess sculpture and the 2003-winner "pirate ship" were also awarded the Second Harvest Food Bank's Rodin Award for most artistic sculpture.
