Cygnus(R) Solutions, the GNU technology leader in cross-platform software development tools for 32- and 64-bit microprocessors, today announced Cygnus Foundry(TM), an integrated development environment (IDE) based on its GNUPro(TM) Toolkit.

Cygnus Foundry is available on CD-ROM for Windows 95 and Windows NT, initially targeting evaluation systems that incorporate Motorola's PowerPC microprocessor.

Cygnus Foundry was developed to bring the power of GNU to software developers who prefer windows-based development environments instead of command-line environments. Software developers using Cygnus Foundry can now increase their programming efficiency with an easy to use graphical interface. Programming in a graphical environment increases quality control; limits typing errors, resulting in fewer bugs; and, allows for faster development cycles by reducing training time for new developers. -0-

In response to an overwhelming customer and semiconductor partner demand for an IDE for GNU, the company is packaging Cygnus Foundry for eventual integration with:

The first release of Cygnus Foundry is bundled with two Motorola PowerPC evaluation board systems, targeting the MPC 600 and MPC 800 processor families. Cygnus Foundry will be available across a broad range of embedded processor targets that Cygnus supports with GNUPro.

-- Project Manager provides the ideal build time control, hiding the complexities of Make files, but allowing access to the compiler and assembler options, target control and object code utilities. The Project Manager serves as the central control point for developers' project builds, editing and debugging.

-- Source Code Editor provides context-sensitive editing and can be launched from the Project Manager or debugger interfaces.

-- Debugger allows extensive run-time analysis and a suite of support windows for registers, stack, local variables, breakpoint and memory viewing.

Availability and Pricing

Cygnus Foundry is available initially on CD-ROM for Windows 95 and Windows NT, bundled with Motorola's PowerPC evaluation board programs for the MPC 600 and MPC 800 Series devices. Pricing and delivery details are available through the Motorola RISC Products Division. Cygnus Foundry will be offered directly from Cygnus for select embedded targets beginning in the first quarter 1998.
