For example, consider a purchase order that moves through various departments for authorization and eventual purchase. .

"SlimDAX links the present of digital archiving to the future," said Wayne Augsburger, vice-president of sales and marketing CD/DVD at Cygnet. "Being based on the id 100 platform represents a double advantage. First it leverages the strengths of CD technology into small and medium type digital asset management applications, second it makes the CD-DVD connection to high-end digital archiving. With the id 100 already shipping with DVD DVD: see digital versatile disc.

Working with standard network client software, such as NFS (Network File System) The file sharing protocol in a Unix network. This de facto Unix standard, which is widely known as a "distributed file system," was developed by Sun. See file sharing protocol and WebNFS.

In order for non-Apple networks to access data in an AppleShare server, their protocols must translate into the AFP language. See file sharing protocol.  for Macintosh clients, slimDAX can also be expanded to at least 32 units controlled from a single server for a total archiving capacity of 2 terabytes. SlimDAX communicates with the user's network computer system over a standard 10/100 Mbps twisted pair A thin-diameter wire (22 to 26 gauge) commonly used for telephone and network cabling. The wires are twisted around each other to minimize interference from other twisted pairs in the cable (Alexander Graham Bell invented this and was awarded a patent for it in 1881).  Ethernet.

"SlimDAX is the most versatile on-line digital archival system available, powered by the highly acclaimed DAXfs data archiving software now provided for UNIX, NT and Mac environments," said Kees Machielsen, managing director of Chess DAX B.V. "With the fully transparent DAXfs, users can access and manage their files in the same way as a file system on a hard disk or a network drive. DAXfs allows for searches through directory names and structures directly on the server. Via a unique high-performance caching vehicle, jobs are performed fast and efficiently even as the number of users and files grow exponentially. It's another unique end-to-end, highly scalable archival solution from Chess and Cygnet that meets both present and future archival needs, and offers tremendous archival system performance."
