Cygnet Storage Announces Support for Advanced Network CD-Recordable Software; Infinidisc Library Compatible with New Release of SmartCD Software Featuring Variable Packet Writing and Aggregate File System Support.NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 15, 1997--Cygnet Storage Solutions Inc. today announced that CD-Recordable models of the Infinidisc Modular CD Jukebox A CD player that holds multiple audio CDs. The term may also refer to a CD-ROM jukebox. See CD-ROM server and digital jukebox. will support the new release of SmartCD software from Smart Storage, Inc. The variable packet writing and aggregate file system capability of the new SmartCD will enable delivery of affordable, network-ready CD-Recordable jukebox storage solutions based on the Infinidisc platform. Infinidisc, available through regional and national resellers specializing in network storage and imaging markets, can be configured with up to eight CD-R (CD-Recordable) A writable CD technology using a type of compact disc that can be recorded, but not erased (CD-Rs are "write once" discs). CD-R discs are used to master CD-ROMs, to back up data and to make copies of data for distribution. or CD-ROM drives CD-ROM drives, which today typically means a CD-RW drive that is a combo CD-ROM, CD-R and CD-RW drive, come in a variety of speeds. The original drive (1x) transferred data at 150KB per second. . Used in conjunction with the new SmartCD software, the Infinidisc jukebox provides transparent data recording, retrieval and storage in single- and multiple-server environments. "With the right combination of hardware and software, CD-Recordable jukebox technology provides enormous cost and performance benefits for network storage," said Wayne Augsburger, vice president of marketing for Cygnet cygnet a young swan. Storage Solutions. "The single network drive letter access and direct file copy capability of SmartCD bring CD-R technology into the mainstream storage market, and we are very pleased to be working with Smart Storage to deliver this capability." With four separate CD Drive modules, which accommodate up to two drives each, Infinidisc supports up to eight CD drives in a jukebox with a 250 disc media module. The 500 disc capacity Infinidisc, configured with two media modules, supports up to four drives. The media modules have a hinged front-door for bulk loading of discs and a front-access mailbox slot for single-disc loading, and the system cabinet has a hinged front-panel for easy maintenance and field upgrade access. Introduced in early-January, Infinidisc is quickly proving to be a high-value solution for imaging, network storage and vertical market applications in finance, banking and health-care. Typical suggested list prices for the Infinidisc Modular CD Jukebox range from $9,995, for a two-drive, 250 disc unit, and range up to approximately $24,000 for a fully configured unit with CD-R drives. Installation and 90-day on-site service in most metropolitan areas are included, and the system hardware is warranted for one year. The variable packet writing version of SmartCD will be available to Beta test A test of new or revised hardware or software that is performed by users at their facilities under normal operating conditions. Beta testing follows alpha testing. Vendors of packaged software often offer their customers the opportunity of beta testing new releases or versions, and the sites beginning in May 1997.
