NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 21, 2004

Cyclades Corporation, a data center fault management company that minimizes unplanned downtime, today introduced the AlterPath(TM) PM10 and PM20, expanding its product line of Intelligent Power Distribution Units (IPDUs) with two new units that enable remote power control of servers and network gear. They have the industry's highest density for IPDUs for both horizontal and vertical models. When used in conjunction with Cyclades console servers, the AlterPath PM10 and PM20 each deliver management capabilities and faster problem solving problem solving

"Integrated power and console management makes operational and financial sense as data centers continue to become more complex and need to automate," said Daniel Dalarossa A Brazilian by birth and one of the founders of Cyclades Corporation, a privately-held company based in Fremont, CA which makes Linux-based servers, switches, and network management appliances.

In January, 2006, he was named 2005 Person of the Year by ITWeek Magazine.

"Influenced by this trend and Cyclades' reputation for dependability, our surge in sales of the AlterPath(TM) PM8 IPDUs further encouraged us to create these new models. Customers now have even more choice to remotely access and manage their data center infrastructure from a central point using any of our console servers and power units."

All interactions are conducted over a secure path due to the security features inherent in Cyclades console servers. SSHv2, RADIUS authentication, IP filtering and user access list per port, allow data center managers and system administrators to remotely manage the network and servers with greater control, freedom and peace of mind. The AlterPath PM10 and PM20 provide added protection to both new and existing customers by providing a secure and reliable means to power cycle, reboot and return to operational status when a server or other network equipment locks up.

In addition to its remote power management capabilities, the AlterPath PM10 and PM20 deliver accurate, real-time global current monitoring of all connected devices via the user interface screen or locally through an LED digital display. Users have the ability to set a current alarm threshold that, once exceeded, will have the AlterPath PM10 and PM20 sound an alarm or send a notification message to the user.

The AlterPath PM10 and PM20 also incorporate a sequential power-up feature that prevents all power outlet receptacles from turning on at once, eliminating the potential of current surges that could render the equipment inoperable inoperable /in·op·er·a·ble/ (in-op´er-ah-b'l) not susceptible to treatment by surgery.

. Along with global current monitoring, the sequential power-up feature lets users safely install more equipment on existing power circuits without the worry of current overloads.

All AlterPath PM IPDUs have daisy-chaining capabilities, allowing users to increase capacity by connecting the control interfaces of several AlterPath PM units in series.

The AlterPath PM10, which has 10 power outlets, is available in 1U rack-mountable form factor for $749 (MSRP MSRP Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price

About Out-of-Band Management Out-of-band management (sometimes called Lights-out management or LOM) is the use of a dedicated management channel for device maintenance. It allows a system administrator to monitor and manage servers and other network equipment by remote control regardless of

Out-of-band management provides an alternative route to network infrastructure that is independent of the data network (WAN and/or LAN (Local Area Network) A communications network that serves users within a confined geographical area. The "clients" are the user's workstations typically running Windows, although Mac and Linux clients are also used. ). Instead of relying on network protocols, as does "in-band" management, out-of-band management uses direct physical access provided by the console ports of equipment to only address infrastructure (hardware failures, low-level configuration problems, OS failures, etc.) -- not application -- problems. The combination Cyclades out-of-band solutions with in-band solutions ensure total coverage of network monitoring and management needs and allow IT professionals to respond to critical events in any circumstance.
