Cyborg Systems Adds MMREF Functionality to The Solution Series/ST; Receives Accolades From Social Security Administration.

Business Editors

CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March, 21, 2001

Cyborg Systems, Inc., a leading worldwide developer of human resource management systems (HRMS HRMS Human Resource Management System
HRMS High Resolution Microwave Survey (SETI, Project Phoenix)
HRMS High Resolution Mass Spectroscopy

), has become one of the first HRMS software providers to comply with the Federal government's new MMREF MMREF Magnetic Media Reporting and Electronic Filing  tax-filing file format requirements. The newest versions of Cyborg's best-in-class HRMS, versions 4.5 and 3.2 of The Solution Series/ST(R), incorporate the new MMREF functionality, ensuring that users will meet 2001 year-end requirements.

MMREF, or Magnetic Media Reporting and Electronic Filing, represents a significant departure from the previous Federal government filing process, which required that a paper signature be sent with a disk or magnetic tape. Now, beginning with 2001 year-end, organizations may submit all employee tax information and W-2 data electronically via the Internet. This new paperless filing process will allow them to verify their filing status through the Social Security Administration's Web site, while saving time and simplifying a portion of the tax reporting process. The MMREF functionality in Cyborg's newest versions of The Solution Series/ST will enable payroll professionals to comply with the regulation change and take advantage of the benefits of Internet-based filing.

Cyborg itself successfully submitted its own corporate 2000 year-end tax files using the new MMREF process. Stated Linda Zavatsky, product manager for The Solution Series/ST, "Members of Cyborg's HR Department were part of our testing for MMREF compatibility, and they found the inclusion of the Social Security Administration's Accuwage testing an integral step of the MMREF process. It allowed them to verify the readiness of Cyborg's file before it was sent to the government, and they were able to submit the information without having to create new media for the SSA (Serial Storage Architecture) A fault tolerant peripheral interface from IBM that transfers data at 80 and 160 Mbytes/sec. SSA uses SCSI commands, allowing existing software to drive SSA peripherals, which are typically disk drives.  and waiting for the receipt."

"Cyborg Systems is on the leading edge of the HR technology industry in providing this functionality to its customers," stated Norm Goldstein, senior financial executive with the Social Security Administration. "Cyborg's early adoption of the new MMREF electronic filing specifications and functionality will enable its customers to reduce their wage reporting burden by allowing them to use the Internet to file their Form W-2s with the Social Security Administration. It will also offer the user significant advantages by providing them with an extended due date (an additional 30 days) for filing their tax data, a receipt acknowledgement, and status information regarding their submission."

MMREF compliance is just one of the new features from which organizations taking advantage of The Solution Series/ST 3.2 or 4.5 will benefit. Version 3.2 of The Solution Series/ST also includes a variety of payroll enhancements, such as imputed Attributed vicariously.

In the legal sense, the term imputed is used to describe an action, fact, or quality, the knowledge of which is charged to an individual based upon the actions of another for whom the individual is responsible rather than on the individual's
