Cybex Announces Terminal Emulation for Wider Range of Control and Security in the Server Room.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 23, 1998--CYBEX Computer Products Corporation (Nasdaq/NM:CBXC) today announced the newest enhancement to its AutoBoot Commander 4xP(TM) server switch. The new Serial Interface Module allows network administrators to access and control ASCII-based data center equipment through the 4xP. Such equipment includes most terminal-based file servers, routers, and hubs.

The AutoBoot Commander 4xP allows multiple users to control and operate any combination of PC, Mac, Sun, RS/6000, Silicon Graphics, DEC Alpha and Hewlett-Packard computers through one keyboard, monitor and mouse. The new Serial Interface Module further enhances the network administrator's control over server room equipment, according to Cybex President and Chief Executive Officer Stephen F. Thornton. "The 4xP is an expandable system that can evolve to meet new customer requirements. Our new ability to support terminals, routers, and other serial-based data center hardware is an excellent example of the benefits of our design. Any device that normally interfaces through an ASCII terminal can now be connected to the 4xP system and viewed on a VGA monitor. "With the wide acceptance of the 4xP in data centers, we are finding that customers would like to further integrate equipment into their 4xP switching system," indicated Gary Johnson, senior vice president of sales and marketing. "The new Serial Interface Module means that network managers no longer require separate terminals for serial-based devices. They can save space and get more immediate access to their vital equipment by controlling them from one location through one set of peripherals."

The Serial Interface Module will be accompanied by an IQ Module. The IQ Module will include a security monitoring system which allows system administrators to track all user switching activity through a simple on-screen menu. Immediate feedback on logging and switching history is available for every system user. System Management Tools allow network managers to display their 4xP system configuration for easy troubleshooting. This menu-driven system shows the type of module installed in each port and the current firmware and hardware revision of each. Information on the type of computer attached to each computer interface module is also available.

Both products are planned for shipment in the second quarter of fiscal 1999.
