Two aggressive computer viruses, released through the Internet, made August the wormiest month on record. The so-called Blaster worm infected at least 500,000 Microsoft-based PCs worldwide and caused more than $1 billion in damage. Days later, a hacker sent a worm called SoBig.F by e-mail to PCs in millions of homes and offices.
