Cybernet Medical Adds Interactive Voice Response to the MedStar System for Enhanced Patient Information Collection.ANN ARBOR Ann Arbor, city (1990 pop. 109,592), seat of Washtenaw co., S Mich., on the Huron River; inc. 1851. It is a research and educational center, with a large number of government and industrial research and development firms, many in high-technology fields such as , Mich. -- The MedStar(TM) Disease Management Data Collection System's IVR (Interactive Voice Response) An automated telephone information system that speaks to the caller with a combination of fixed voice menus and data extracted from databases in real time. Facilitates More Detailed Clinical Assessments of Chronic Disease Patients Cybernet Medical, a leading developer of biometric monitoring technology and medical devices for outpatient care, today announced that its MedStar(TM) Disease Management Data Collection System now offers Interactive Voice Response (IVR) features. The MedStar's IVR application, an automatic telephony technology that enables an electronic dialog via a touch-tone telephone, can be used to further support the remote care of chronic disease patients. Through the IVR feature, subjective questions can be used in conjunction with the MedStar's collection and transmission of a patient's physiological data to assist in the development of a more detailed clinical assessment. "IVR technology can be successfully used to assess patient progress and to encourage patients to stick with their healthcare programs," said Eric Lichtenstein, director of Cybernet Medical. "For example, medications taken as prescribed and improvements in diet and exercise can greatly influence a positive outcome for a chronic disease patient. Through IVR technology, healthcare providers now have a cost-effective way to frequently evaluate and educate their patients outside of the hospital or clinic setting." The MedStar device collects data directly from measurement tools such as blood pressure cuffs and glucose monitors and transmits it to a collection server over a standard telephone line. It is especially useful for monitoring special needs patients with diseases such as diabetes, congestive heart failure congestive heart failure, inability of the heart to expel sufficient blood to keep pace with the metabolic demands of the body. In the healthy individual the heart can tolerate large increases of workload for a considerable length of time. , slow-to-heal wounds and high blood pressure. Through its telephone-based IVR feature, additional information can now be obtained to provide a more complete picture of a patient's healthcare status.
