Once again simplifying Linux, Cybernet Systems Corporation today announced a faster and easier way to turn any PC into an Internet appliance with the NetMAX 2.2 update, a series of Linux-based thin servers supporting Linux Kernel 2.2.13.

NetMAX dramatically simplifies Linux server configuration and management while retaining the full power of Red Hat(TM)OS (NASDAQ: RHAT) and proven applications such as the Apache web server, Sendmail, Samba and others. The NetMAX WebServer, FileServer and FireWall systems can be installed and configured in as little as 15 minutes through a few simple mouse clicks.

The NetMAX 2.2 update offers improved performance features and functionality including increased memory support, wider protocol usage and improved system speed. With support for the Linux 2.2.13 kernel, NetMAX now provides:

--   Greater customization of firewall rules and increased number of
     supported protocols within NetMAX FireWall.
--   Increased NetMAX performance through larger memory support. The
     memory system will auto-detect up to 1G of RAM, up from the
     previous auto-detect limit of 64 MB.
--   Improved system speed due to large file descriptor support, which
     allows for a greater number of files to be open concurrently, a
     requirement for large databases.
--   Better user interface performance by moving data quickly within
     the kernel. Data pointers are redirected, which is faster than
     actually copying the data.
--   Expanded NetMAX support for hardware devices, including
     processors and chipsets from Intel, Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
     and Cyrix Corp.
--   Optional support for symmetric multiprocessing, giving NetMAX the
     ability to support SMP Linux boxes.
