NetWorld+Interop 2004 Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 11, 2004

NetOctave, a leading manufacturer of security processors and accelerator boards for the SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) The leading security protocol on the Internet. Developed by Netscape, SSL is widely used to do two things: to validate the identity of a Web site and to create an encrypted connection for sending credit card and other personal data.  (secure sockets layer (networking, security) Secure Sockets Layer - (SSL) A protocol designed by Netscape Communications Corporation to provide secure communications over the Internet using asymmetric key encryption. ) and IPsec (Internet protocol security) markets and a division of CyberGuard Corporation (Nasdaq:CGFW), today announced its NSP (1) (Network Service Provider) An organization that provides a high-speed Internet backbone to ISPs and other service providers. Sprint, MCI and UUNET are examples of NSPs. See Internet backbones. 2056B PCI-X (PCI eXtended) An enhanced PCI bus technology originally developed by IBM, HP and Compaq that is backward compatible with existing PCI cards. PCI and 32-bit PCI-X slots are physically the same, and PCI cards can plug into PCI-X slots.  Security Accelerator, the newest and fastest addition to its IPsec and SSL accelerator product line.

Similar to NetOctave's other products, the NSP2056B supports IPsec and SSL in a single product with no configuration or other changes. Using the recent PCI-X specification, this new board-level product yields 6,100 SSL transactions per second In a very generic sense, the term Transactions Per Second refers to the number of atomic actions performed by certain entity per second. In a more restrictied view, the term is usually used by DBMS vendor and user community to refer to the number of database transactions performed  and 2,000 Diffie-Hellman IPsec Phase I operations per second. The product also offloads data encryption for IPsec and SSL at rates up to one gigabit per second. The product is available in sample quantities immediately.

"The new PCI-X offering extends our product line to meet the demands of the highest performance SSL and IPsec VPN (Virtual Private Network) A private network that is configured within a public network (a carrier's network or the Internet) in order to take advantage of the economies of scale and management facilities of large networks.  products," stated Jim Kristof, general manager of CyberGuard's NetOctave division.

In a second announcement, the NetOctave division said that its new 4.0 software release would be available in June. This release adds support for the native Linux IPsec stack and the JCA (1) (Java Cryptography Architecture) An umbrella term from Sun for implementing security functions for the Java platform. It includes Sun's Java Security API as well as the Java Cryptography Extension (JCE), which adds more programming interfaces for encryption  and JCE See JCA.  standards for offloading cryptographic functions to facilitate upper layer application development and firewalls. The 4.0 software release continues NetOctave's support for new versions of operating systems and security applications.

"The raw performance of the NSP2056B PCI-X Security Accelerator combined with our optimized 4.0 software release provides a strong hardware acceleration suite for the needs of XML XML

security products. This emerging security application can require five times the security processing power as traditional SSL and IPsec products," explained Kristof.

NetOctave designs hardware and software acceleration products for OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and  (original equipment manufacturer) customers that enable them to (1) deliver system-level performance that can be achieved in real-world environments and (2) shorten the time required to design a new element into a product and take it to market.
