Cyber-Security Expert Howard A. Schmidt Joins ELI as Chairman of Board of Directors; Former Executive For eBay and Microsoft Joins Security Start-Up to Protect Consumers from Internet-Based Threats.

Schmidt, former vice president and chief security strategist for eBay, as chairman of its Board of Directors. Schmidt, chair of President Bush's Critical Infrastructure Protection Board from January to May 2003 and current chief security strategist for the US CERT Partners Program, is one of the nation's foremost experts on cyber security and the threat that cyber crime poses to all Americans.

Schmidt also served as chief security officer for Microsoft, co-founding and directing the computer giant's Trustworthy Computer Security Strategies Group. Exemplifying his experience in security at every level and across industries, Schmidt worked in the area of computer crime investigation for the FBI, the Chandler Police Department in Arizona, and as the director of the Air Force Office of Special Investigations, Computer Crime and Information Warfare Division. He still serves as a computer crime investigator in the US Army Reserves.
