SALT LAKE CITY--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 6, 2001

For the first time, GPS technology is available in a fully portable location and emergency tracking system. CyTerra Corporation is unveiling the newest version of RadioTrac for use with hand-held, two-way radio A voice network that provides an always-on connection enabling the user to just "push the button and talk." Also called "dispatch radio," two-way radio has traditionally been used by police, fire, taxi and other mobile fleets.  systems. CyTerra's sophisticated new interface, a breakthrough advance in the application of GPS technology, will be demonstrated at Booth #1508 during the 67th Annual APCO Conference and Exposition, on August 5-9, at the Salt Palace Convention Center.

RadioTrac systems are designed to enhance the safety of public service and public safety personnel by providing instant location and emergency tracking information through a customer's existing mobile or hand-held two-way radio system. All RadioTrac systems integrate the latest GPS technology and come complete with a base station, a miniature GPS transceiver (TRANSmitter reCEIVER) An electronic device or circuit that transmits and receives analog or digital signals. It comes in many forms; for example, a transponder on a satellite, a network adapter in the computer or the circuits in a cellphone.  with patented encoding/decoding techniques, and CyTerra's proprietary mapping software, which is tailored to meet specific customer needs. RadioTrac is the most affordable system of its kind currently available.

RadioTrack Portable System

With RadioTrac's new portable system for hand-held two-way radios, users can now venture outside the vehicle. The miniature GPS transceiver, which is plugged into the users hand-held radio, measures only 2" x 2 1/2" x 1" and is designed to be worn by field personnel, forestry rangers Rapidly deployable airborne light infantry organized and trained to conduct highly complex joint direct action operations in coordination with or in support of other special operations units of all Services.  or any group that normally performs field operations. The RadioTrac base monitor can be stationary Stationary can mean:

  • Unchanging in condition or character.
  • In statistics and probability: a stationary process.
  • In mathematics: a stationary point.

 - installed in an office or connected to a 12-volt battery system in an automobile - or it can be completely portable, for 100% in-field operations, when connected to a laptop computer A portable computer that has a flat LCD screen and usually weighs less than eight pounds. Often called just a "laptop," it uses batteries for mobile use and AC power for charging the batteries and desktop use. Today's high-end laptops provide all the capabilities of most desktop computers.  and its own self-contained battery pack. This system provides users with a broad range of possible applications, including bike, mounted, foot or motor patrols.

RadioTrac Mobile System

With the RadioTrac mobile system, the GPS transceiver is incorporated into a small, easy-to-install unit, which is placed inside the vehicle and connected to the mobile radio. The RadioTrac base station connects to a computer's serial port and to the dispatch A dispatch or dispatches can refer to:

center's radio. Designed for virtually any small to mid-sized organization that puts one or more vehicles on the road, the mobile configuration helps to manage dispatch operations more efficiently and allows two-way signaling to provide instant location information to improve personnel safety. RadioTrac can be used for both conventional location tracking and emergency signaling applications by a wide range of emergency service groups, including police, fire, ambulance, and security companies.

Cost-Effective

Because RadioTrac systems are designed to be used with a customer's existing mobile or hand-held portable two-way radio system, they significantly minimize the initial investment, especially when compared with purchasing and setting up a more expensive, complex tracking system. Unlike other systems, RadioTrac is a one-time investment. Once a customer has purchased the base monitor and the mobile or portable units, there are no further operating expenses Operating expenses

 or monthly charges.

"Our system turns what has typically been viewed as a conventional communication device into a productivity tool that can help organizations better deploy and manage their operations. And with RadioTrac, we've made state-of-the-art applications of GPS technology so cost-effective that even the smallest agency can afford a high-reliability system for vehicle tracking and location," explained Lou Marcarelli, vice president of CyTerra. "The sophisticated engineering concepts incorporated into the company's new portable RadioTrac system are simply the most advanced technology available today. This system is the only one of its kind in the world," he adds.

"This is exactly what our customers have been asking for," said Catherine Leonard, president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of Comtronics Corporation, one of the largest two-way radio dealers in the Boston area. "CyTerra has developed a simplified application from several complex technologies. Now, our customers can have a user-friendly, affordable system to provide tracking and location information."

RadioTrac systems are available now at a suggested price of $899.00 for the base monitor and $599.00 for each mobile unit.
