This book provides machining recommendations for the metalcutting process of turning; recommendations related to cutting speeds, feed rates, and depth of cuts as dependant on workpiece materials, their properties, and type of cutting tools materials. The workpiece materials covered are the most commonly used grades of carbon, alloy, stainless, and tool steels and the cutting tool materials are high- speed steels, cemented carbides, cermets, ceramics, and polycrystalline cubic boron nitride. The author builds upon the recommendations of the third edition of the Metcut Research Associates' Machining Data Handbook, published in 1980, adjusting the parameters in accordance with contemporary metalcutting technology.
