Cutting Edge Software, Inc. announces today the release of the latest version of its award-winning Quickoffice(TM) productivity suite for Palm Powered(TM) handheld computers. The new version includes a major upgrade in the Quickword word processor, including built-in custom font support and an integrated spell-checking engine and thesaurus. Other improvements to the new version focus on improving the application suite's performance, such as the speed of opening files and better support for portable keyboards.

For the first time, Quickword users will be able to view custom fonts on their Palm OS(R) handhelds. Previously, users could select different fonts, but they would not be able to see the effect of their selections until the Quickword document was synchronized with MS Word. To provide this new capability, Cutting Edge Software implemented Hands High Software's FontBucket technology, a font management system that is now seamlessly integrated with Quickword to give users true font support. Further, Quickoffice will now come equipped with a Windows desktop Font Converter utility designed to convert TrueType fonts to display fonts for use within Quickword.

As more "desktop-like" capabilities are added to Palm Powered productivity applications, mobile professionals have been leaving their laptops behind and relying more on their handhelds for getting work done away from the office. To give Quickword users even greater capabilities for on-the-go productivity, Cutting Edge Software has collaborated with DDH Software to add a spell-check engine and thesaurus to Quickword. Users will now enjoy a 45,000 word spell-check dictionary and a 55,000 word thesaurus to aid in composing and producing finished documents while out of the office.

One of the keys to Cutting Edge Software's success has been to implement sensible performance enhancements without sacrificing features needed by most users. The latest version of Quickoffice is no exception. The company has worked to improve the speed with which users are able to open Quickword files and scroll through documents.
