Cute Scruffy lives on to prove vets wrong; Family and other creatures.


MEET Scruffy, a cross between a Rottweiler Rottweiler (rŏt`wīlər), breed of sturdy working dog developed from a Roman cattle dog introduced into S Germany more than 1,900 years ago. It stands from 21 3-4 to 27 in. (55.3–68.  and a collie collie, breed of large, agile working dog developed in Scotland during the 17th and 18th cent. It stands from 22 to 26 in. (55.9–66 cm) high at the shoulder and weighs from 50 to 75 lb (22.7–34 kg). , who was rehomed from Marina Kennels by his owner, Julie Grendon.

She said: "Apparently he was picked up in Leeds very dirty and quite snappy. He was, however, incredibly cute and won my heart immediately.

"I actually bought him as a companion for my other rescue dog, Rebel, a large Alsatian.

After some hard work they were the best of friends. Since Rebel died, Scruffy has had two other companions, Joe Joe, a 12-year-old and Duchess, a nine-year old, and he has outlived them.

"I was told by the vets 19 months ago that he only had six months to live.'' Even though he has several health problems he is a very lively, happy dog and people always comment on how cute he is. Scruffy is a huge part of my family's life and we are all extremely proud him.

How long have you had your pet? Just over 17 years.

What did you call your pet and was there a particular reason for the choice of name? He was so scruffy when I got him. Plus he is so cute, it is the least-expected name for him.

What's the best thing about your pet? He is extremely loyal, loving and obedient..

Has your pet got any naughty traits? No, but he still insists on chasing cats - though they always outrun out·run
