Anyone who lived through the 1980s will recognize the synth-soaked sounds and angular hairstyles of Cute Phase.

Whether this Long Beach, Calif., trio is just wading in nostalgia or if they have something new to say is still unclear, but dramatic originals such as "Famous at Night" and "London Drugs London Drugs is a large chain of Canadian retail stores that provides a wide range of products and health services. The store carries a range of merchandise from personal care products to electronics and computers. " tip the balance in the band's favor.

You can decide for yourself on Thursday when the band plays Luckey's Club Cigar Store Luckey’s Club Cigar Store was purchased in 1911 by Tad Luckey, Sr., the son of Irish immigrants and an early Eugene pioneer. It is the oldest retail business in downtown Eugene, and one of the oldest bars in Oregon. .

 Adam Glogauer Adam Glogauer (aka Adam Unknown, b. 1970 - ) was born in Costa Mesa, CA and is best known as the drummer for the Cherry Poppin Daddies. He was adopted at age 1, lived with his mother in Long Beach, California until age 10, and then moved to Eugene, Oregon.  hails from Eugene and briefly played drums for the Cherry Poppin' Daddies. His skills as a multi-instrumentalist help bring a degree of originality and a modern flair to the proceedings.

For those who ever have said to themselves, "I like power metal, but it's just too slow and meandering for me," this is the group for you. And there must be lots of you out there; promoters reported Thursday that the concert is a sellout.

Taking a break from the Ozzfest tour, DragonForce wakes up the neighborhood with some help at 8 p.m. from openers Between the Buried and Me Between the Buried and Me are a progressive metal quintet from Raleigh, North Carolina. Their sound incorporates many different musical styles: "One minute the band may be playing thrash metal and the next they're flowing into death metal growls and thick guitar riffs...  and If Hope Dies.

Jazz standards and Latin jazz Latin jazz is the general term given to music that combines rhythms from African and Latin American countries with jazz and classical harmonies from Latin America, the Caribbean, Europe and United States.

The two main categories of Latin Jazz are Brazilian and Afro-Cuban.
 numbers are the specialty of jazz vocalist Nancy Ream, who tackles everything from popular favorites such as "Fly Me to the Moon" to tricky bop classics such as "Twisted."

Accompanied by the trio Mercury's Refrain, Ream sets a chill mood with her songs. Perfect for cocktails by candlelight, even if it is still light outside.

Mercury's Refrain features Eugene jazz scenesters John Crider on piano, Bruce Cole Bruce Cole is the eighth chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities. He was born in Ohio and attended Case Western Reserve University. He earned his master's degree from Oberlin College and his doctorate from Bryn Mawr College. For two years he was the William E.  on drums and Hamilton Mays on bass.

Luna is at 30 E. Broadway. The tunes start at 8 p.m.

Brothers of the Baladi

If you've ever wondered what happens when a Middle Eastern World Music quartet from Portland meets surf guitar legend Dick Dale This article is about the surf guitarist. For the saxophonist-singer, see Dick Dale (singer).
Dick Dale (born Richard Anthony Monsour on May 4, 1937, in Quincy, Massachusetts) is "The King of the Surf Guitar": a pioneer of surf rock and one of the most
 in a dark alley, check out Brothers of the Baladi.

Along with an exotic version of Dale's "Miserlou," the band covers classic Middle Eastern recordings and mixes traditional ethnic acoustic instruments with Western instrumentation. Members also sing in seven languages.

A perennial Eugene favorite, the Brothers are a staple at the Oregon Country Fair The Oregon Country Fair (OCF) is a three-day fair that takes place yearly beginning on the Friday of the second weekend in July in Veneta, Oregon, approximately 15 miles west of Eugene, with an attendance of approximately 45,000 over the three day period, with attendance peaking  (bandleader Michael Beach helped found the Gypsy Stage in 1980), and they are well known in these parts for transcending musical borders. They perform with the Middle Eastern dancers Razia, Jamara and Elena Villa.

Showtime is 8 p.m., and tickets are $8 in advance or $10 at the door.

Rush Mountmore

If Canada had a say in the matter, it probably wouldn't choose to mark one of its premier national holidays with a performance by a Rush tribute band from Oregon.

But since the Canadian goverment doesn't have much pull in these parts, that's exactly what's going down. Rush Mountmore will celebrate Canada and the power rock trio it spawned in the 1970s with a Canada Day show that's anything but fly by night.

Composed of Canuck-loving musicians from the local rock scene, Rush Mountmore features Joe Pettit (CoStars) on bass, vocals and synthesizer synthesizer

Machine that electronically generates and modifies sounds, frequently with the use of a digital computer, for use in the composition of electronic music and in live performance.
; Sean Brennan (Silas) on drums; and Brian Patrick on guitar.

Along with some serious rock thunderbolts, the band promises to throw a few surprise guests into the mix.

Opening act Cinnamon Joe will warm up the room with rock, and Portland's Chuck Warda will close things down with some "funky groove madness."

The Wetlands Sports Bar and Brew Pub is at 922 Garfield St. The show starts at 10 p.m.

The cover is $3 - which is about $3.35 Canadian.

Janet Robin

Sunday, Cozmic Pizza

Before launching a solo career, Janet Robin studied guitar with Ozzy Osborne's former guitarist Randy Rhoads and played in the Lindsay Buckingham Band. She joined Meredith Brooks' touring band and played on Michelle Shocked's latest album.

Indigo Girls. Summer. Veneta. Three great tastes that go even better together.

Hot on the heels of recording their ninth studio album, the folk-rock duo of Amy Ray and Emily Saliers return for yet another go-round. The as-yet-untitled CD is due out Sept. 19.

Fans can watch video clips of the mixing session and see a guest vocal appearance by Pink on a track called "Rock and Roll Heaven's Gate," on the Web at indigogirls.com. But if you're a fan, you already knew that.

Soviet rockabilly surf music is the Red Elvises' forte, and co-founder Igor Yuzov serves up some real gems of Eastern Bloc fusion.

On `200 Pounds of Pure Love," Yuzov blends the King with ska, polka and a New Wave dance beat. And "Hawaiian Dance Song" sounds like Don Ho doing the mambo A popular open source content management system (CMS) that is used to create and manage Web sites. Written in PHP and using the MySQL database, Mambo was released in 2001 by Peter Lamont of Miro Construct Pty Ltd., Melbourne, Australia.  and smashing his ukulele ukulele (ykəlā`lē), Hawaiian musical instrument developed from the Portuguese guitar. It has a fretted fingerboard and four strings that are plucked or strummed.  on the Berlin Wall.

The Tones

Thursday, Oregano's Grill

It all started with an a cappella rendition of "Stand by Me."

That was the song that inspired the formation of the Tones, which performed their signature mix of 1950s doo-wop, Motown and '70s rock well into the late 1980s in Eugene before disbanding.

The group reunites for a nostalgic show featuring members Paul Friedlander, Bill Chilla, Leroy Jones and Lynda Duffy.

The $8 show starts at 8 p.m. Oregano's Grill is at 830 Olive St.
