This latest survey was designed to find out more about the implementation and maintenance of learning management systems (LMSs) in today's corporate environment. Survey responses were almost equally split between hosted and behind-the-firewall implementations. SumTotal and Saba were the most frequently used LMS vendors; approximately 25% of respondents used offerings from these vendors. Almost 40% of respondents said their companies did not use the latest versions of installed LMSs. Reasons for not upgrading included lack of budget (38.1%), impact on previous customization work (32.1%), uncertainty about version stability (32.1%), and lack of technical resources (25.0%). Other survey findings include: * Third-party service providers were used for implementation by 7.7% of respondents and for ongoing maintenance by 9.7%. * 38.3% of respondents said their LMS implementations had occurred within the last year. * The training organization typically has primary responsibility for both implementation and maintenance of LMS implementations (47.9% and 44.9%). * Almost 30% of respondents said their implementations were over budget; more than half of respondents said implementation took longer or much longer than expected.
