Customer service and product integration key to selection; Texas Counties Integrate New 9-1-1 System with Intergraph GIS Solutions.HUNTSVILLE, Ala.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 2, 1997--Intergraph Corporation today announced the sale of a complete Geographic Information System geographic information system (GIS) Computerized system that relates and displays data collected from a geographic entity in the form of a map. The ability of GIS to overlay existing data with new information and display it in colour on a computer screen is used primarily to (GIS) to the Capital Area Planning Council (CAPCO CAPCO Certified Capital Company CAPCO Capitol Area CAPCO Consumer Aerosol Products Council CAPCO Capability Package Coordination Officer CAPCO Controlled Access Program Coordinating Office (CIA) CAPCO California Agricultural Pest Control Operators ) in central Texas. CAPCO is the 9-1-1 administrative office for the 10 counties surrounding the city of Austin in Travis County. CAPCO has the unique responsibility of maintaining the GIS and database, and serving as the central location for passing information to the 9-1-1 Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) when a 9-1-1 call is received. The 9-1-1 workstation automatically displays the phone number, name and address of the caller. Within seconds after receiving the initial 9-1-1 call, mapped ALI will also display on the integrated workstation. ANI (automatic number identification) and ALI (automatic location identification) are the two basic components of enhanced 9-1-1 call handling. The mapped ALI allows for a computer generated map to display at the 9-1-1 workstation showing the location of the 9-1-1 call. CAPCO needed a complete GIS, along with a functional database, to handle the multitude of calls and tasks associated with handling its many responsibilities. The requirements of CAPCO's GIS called for an open system capable of handling the high call volume within the region, which could climb to as high as 3,000 calls per day. The immediate goal of the system is to provide the telecommunicator handling the 9-1-1 call with the ability to view a situational map of the caller's location, including information such as roads, buildings, fire hydrants, and gas lines. When technology permits, the 9-1-1 telecommunicator will also be able to pinpoint the location of cellular calls using xy coordinates to allow emergency response agencies to better assist those needing help in an emergency. The GIS purchase included Intergraph workstations, a server, internal and external web servers, a plotter, scanner and firewall. Intergraph Software Solutions is providing GIS Office centered around the Modular GIS Environment (MGE Mge Mycoplasma Genitalium MGE Minneapolis Grain Exchange MGE Madison Gas and Electric Company MGE Mobile Genetic Elements MGE Maintenance Ground Equipment MGE Microstation Graphics Environment MGE Modern Gun Effectiveness Model MGE Modular Gis Environment ) and Oracle for Windows NT (Windows New Technology) A 32-bit operating system from Microsoft for Intel x86 CPUs. NT is the core technology in Windows 2000 and Windows XP (see Windows). Available in separate client and server versions, it includes built-in networking and preemptive multitasking. software systems to make the CAPCO GIS functional. A local area network (LAN (Local Area Network) A communications network that serves users within a confined geographical area. The "clients" are the user's workstations typically running Windows, although Mac and Linux clients are also used. ) has already been established for CAPCO and a wide area network (WAN) using Intergraph products and services will traverse over 500 miles to connect 36 PSAPs, and 9-1-1 GIS Addressing Coordinators at fifteen remote locations. As mentioned earlier, the CAPCO region encompasses ten counties - Bastrop, Blanco, Burnet burnet, hardy perennial herb of the family Rosaceae (rose) found in temperate regions, usually with white or greenish flowers. The European species are sometimes cultivated for the leaves, which are used in salads, for flavoring, and formerly as a poultice to stop , Caldwell, Fayette, Hays, Lee, Llano lla·no n. pl. lla·nos A large, grassy, almost treeless plain, especially one in Latin America. [Spanish, plain, from Latin pl , Travis and Williamson in central Texas. CAPCO decided to have on-site training, consulting and project management as a part of their GIS project to ensure a smooth implementation and guarantee efficiency at all stages of the project. CAPCO chose Intergraph's solution for three reasons - to achieve integrated Mapped ALI, maintain open systems, and continued customer support. Glenn Roach, Emergency Services emergency services Emergency care '…services …necessary to prevent death or serious impairment of health and, because of the danger to life or health, require the use of the most accessible hospital available and equipped to furnish those services' Director with CAPCO stated, "We are proud to work with a corporation such as Intergraph and can rest assured that with Intergraph's solution our 36 answering points will be able to receive up-to-date maps when a 9-1-1 call is received". He concluded, by saying, "Mapped ALI is one more step in providing the citizens in our ten-county region with the most sophisticated 9-1-1 system in Texas". This purchase was made through an Intergraph Business Partner, DeskMap Systems. The sale is currently valued at approximately one million dollars.
