Customer boost.

A major supplier of energy in the UK said today its "restraint" on power prices had been rewarded with 600,000 new customers in the past year.

Scottish & Southern Energy, which owns Southern Electric, Scottish Hydro Electric Scottish Hydro-Electric plc (Scottish company number SC117119) was a Public Electricity Supplier formed on 1 August 1989 after a change of name from North of Scotland Electricity plc on that date.  and Swalec in Wales, announced price rises in March but said at the time it would leave tariffs unchanged until at least the start of next year.

The company said today it would continue to protect customers from recent volatility in wholesale energy markets, even though rival Scottish Power Scottish Power Limited is a vertically integrated energy company with its headquarters in Glasgow, Scotland, and a subsidiary of the Spanish utility Iberdrola. It is the Distribution Network Operator (DNO) for the central and southern Scotland (voltage  said last week that price rises were "unavoidable" and British Gas owner Centrica warned its residential arm was still making a loss.
