custom mixers taking part in Rubber World's annual survey of the industry. Capacity increased to an estimated 3.5 billion pounds, up from the 3.3 billion pounds reported the two previous years. The increase is significant considering Quabaug Custom Mixing of North Brookfield North Brookfield is the name of some places in the United States.
  • North Brookfield, Massachusetts
  • North Brookfield, Maryland
, MA exited the industry last fall which eliminated 50 million pounds of capacity. Quabaug got out of custom mixing even though it was profitable because the operations didn't fit with the overall strategic goals of the company. Primarily in the footwear business, Quabaug entered the custom mixing business in 1984.

Expansion programs were completed in 1992 at the following mixers: AC Products added 200,000 gallons per year for water based products; Alloy Polymers added eight million pounds of capacity; Colonial Rubber Works increased capacity by five million pounds; Compass Polymer Mixing increased by 500,000 pounds; Discas added 10 million pounds of capacity; Dyna-Mix added 25 million pounds; Kardoes increased capacity by six million pounds; and U.S. Elastomer elastomer (ĭlăs`təmər), substance having to some extent the elastic properties of natural rubber. The term is sometimes used technically to distinguish synthetic rubbers and rubberlike plastics from natural rubber.  increased capacity 4.8 million pounds annually. Capacity was increased by unspecified amounts by American Biltrite, Chase Elastomer and GLS GLS - Guy Lewis Steele, Jr.  Plastics.

Less than eight percent of the survey respondents indicated plans for expansions this year. Dyna Mix will mix non-color and colors; Kardoes is in the process of adding a 76 x 28 four-roll calender CALENDER. An almanac. Julius Caesar ordained that the Roman year should consist of 365 days, except every fourth year, which should contain 366, the additional day to be reckoned by counting the twenty-fourth day of February (which was the 6th of the calends of March) twice. ; R&S Processing is installing a new #4 internal mixer for black material; and Tristani Rubber Industries is adding 7,500 ft. of warehouse space along with upgrading its mixing line. GLS Plastics indicated a capacity increase would be implemented and Blair Rubber said one was under consideration.

Survey results show that Colonial is the largest North American custom mixer by announced capacity of one billion pounds per year. Burton Rubber and Teknor Apex are next at 200 million pounds.
