CushWake program helps new hires learn sales and leasing skills.

Known for its multi-disciplinary approach to commercial real estate leasing and sales, Cushman & Wakefield, Inc. continues its commitment to educate new professionals in both brokerage and other real estate areas though its Career Development Program. Designed for both recent undergraduate and graduate students, as well as candidates with several years of related business experience, the Career Development Program was created to give participants training and knowledge in all aspects of the commercial real estate business.

One recent graduate, Geoffrey Silverstein, came to Cushman & Wakefield in March 2000 following a career as a commercial real estate asset manager and lender for the Long Term Credit Bank of Japan, as well as a period of selling information technology services.

"I have always had an affinity for the real estate industry and my experience selling computers taught me sales basics, so I began interviewing with the major real estate brokerage firms about a year ago," said Silverstein. "I chose Cushman & Wakefield not only because of its excellent industry reputation, but also because of its approach to a highly-structured training program and mentoring. I knew that the company was going to be vested vested adj. referring to having an absolute right or title, when previously the holder of the right or title only had an expectation. Examples: after 20 years of employment Larry Loyal's pension rights are now vested. (See: vest, vested remainder)  in me from the start."

Because of his previous real estate background, Silverstein entered the four-month program (the year-long program is designed for those with no relevant business experience, such as recent graduates) which included an orientation to Cushman & Wakefield's local branch personnel and the company's history, culture policies and practices, followed by a rotation through the Company's core services The introduction to this article provides insufficient context for those unfamiliar with the subject matter.
