Cusac Gold Mines Ltd.: Clearwater Platinum - Palladium Project.Business Editors VANCOUVER, B.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 9, 2000 Guilford H. Brett, Director of Cusac Gold Mines Ltd. (TSE See Tokyo Stock Exchange. TSE 1. See Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE). 2. See Toronto Stock Exchange (TSE). :CQC.)(OTCBB OTCBB See OTC Bulletin Board (OTCBB). :CUSIF) reports that the Company is pleased to announce that it has staked additional mineral claims (23 contiguous units) adjacent to its Clearwater Platinum Project on its Golden Loon mineral property (193 contiguous units), presently under option from Tilava Mining Corp. The new claims cover an area containing nickel sulphide mineralization Mineralization The process by which the body uses minerals to build bone structure. Mentioned in: Rickets mineralization, n the bioprecipitation of an inorganic substance. , as millerite mil·ler·ite n. A nickel sulfide mineral, NiS, usually occurring in long hairlike crystals and sometimes used as a nickel ore. [After William Hallowes Miller (1801-1880), British mineralogist. (NiS), occurring in the vicinity of a fault and shear zone that extends from the east side of the main ultra-mafic intrusion to the west side of a small satellite ultra-mafic intrusive, which is also contained within the new mineral claims. Nickel mineralization carrying platinum group elements (PGE's) was previously reported from float found on the eastern portion of present Golden Loon claim group (per McDougall, 1999), or within the newly acquired claims. A program of prospecting, mapping and sampling has begun on the new claims. A Petrographic Report regarding the high-grade dunite/peridotite rock sample (approx. 0.40 opt Pt) collected by McDougall from the vicinity of Trench#3 indicates that orthopyroxenes are present (Northcote; Vancouver Petrographics; 2000), a contra-indication of 'Alaskan-type' intrusives, which are characterized by the presence of clinopyroxenes and absence of orthopyroxenes (Nixon; BC Geological Survey; Bulletin 93, 1997). Thin section and reflective microscopy indicated not only the presence of metal sulphides but also possible platinum arsenide (sperrylite sper·ry·lite n. A white crystalline platinum mineral, essentially PtAs2. [After Francis Louis Sperry (died 1906), Canadian chemist.] ) that appears to have been remobilized and deposited as fracture fillings. Portions of the rejects and pulps of this sample and several others from the property have been sent for nickel sulphide fire assay (NiS FA) to determine the concentrations of all of the PGE's (Pt, Pd, Rh, Ir, Os an Ru) present, instead of merely Pt and Pd, as available by conventional lead fire assay (Pb FA). At present, most of the initial control grid has been cut, extensive soil sampling has begun and an excavator has been moved onto the property in preparation for trenching Magnometer, vlf-em and IP surveys are forthcoming, pending the geophysical crew's arrival.
