DANIEL Radcliffe's play Equus is closing in June - just three months after it opened to critical acclaim.

The surprise move follows reports that directors were looking for a new actor to succeed Harry Potter star Radcliffe, 17, at the end of his run.

He was paired in the play with unknown Huddersfield actress Joanna Christie, 24.

She won plaudits for tackling a role which saw her go naked on stage with Radcliffe.

Peter Shaffer's classic play will go on a 12-week national tour after it closes on June 9 at London's Gielgud Theatre The Gielgud Theatre is a West End theatre, located on Shaftesbury Avenue in the City of Westminster, London, at the corner of Rupert Street.
