Curriculum Advantage was incorporated in 2003 and quickly began revamping Classworks into a relevant teaching resource for schools where accountability and informed instruction -- key elements of the No Child Left Behind Act The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (Public Law 107-110), commonly known as NCLB (IPA: /ˈnɪkəlbiː/), is a United States federal law that was passed in the House of Representatives on May 23, 2001 of 2001 -- drive many educational technology purchases. Classworks had been in use in classrooms since 1993 but lacked a learning management system and direct ties to assessment data which would allow high-stakes test data and other benchmarking assessments to guide instruction. With the purchase of Classworks in 2003, and after six months of redevelopment, an aggressive development plan promised new import editions for key states. To date, every development benchmark has been achieved and the final count for state import editions includes Texas, Florida, Pennsylvania, Georgia, New York and Illinois, as well as a Scantron Performance Series import edition. In addition to updated Classworks alignments to state learning standards for language arts, reading and mathematics, Classworks developers aligned the instructional activities to 15 states and correlated its internal benchmarking assessment to the primary norm-referenced tests: SAT/10, CTBS CTBS Comprehensive Tests of Basic Skills CTBS Certified Tissue Bank Specialist CTBS California Tests of Basic Skills , CAT, ITBS ITBS Iowa Test of Basic Skills ITBS Iliotibial Band Syndrome ITBS Industrial Technologies Business Solutions , and MAT. These internal assessments serve as a critical element of a teacher's work to determine which required skills students do not understand. Using that data, teachers can then rely on Classworks to assign activities, lessons and quizzes to help students catch up with the skills they do not currently understand -- also called remediation. "With the launch of the New York Import Edition of Classworks, we will have achieved every development goal we established 14 months ago," said Melissa Watkins, chief operating officer Chief Operating Officer (COO) The officer of a firm responsible for day-to-day management, usually the president or an executive vice-president. . "Obviously we are proud of our development team and clearly, we have correctly envisioned what educators needed because they have whole-heartedly embraced the revamped Classworks."
