LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 4, 2004

Curriculum Advantage, Inc. announced today that it has released a new import utility for Classworks that imports the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment The annual Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) is the Pennsylvania state standardized test. Every Pennsylvania student in grades 3 through 8 and grade 11 is assessed in reading and math. Every Pennsylvania student in grades 5, 8 and 11 is assessed in writing.  (PSSA PSSA Pennsylvania System of School Assessment

This newest utility for Classworks (www.curriculumadvantage.com), gives teachers a seamless way to import PSSA scores with one simple step and immediately see an individualized list of activities for each student that addresses their specific areas of weakness. Classworks includes 8,600 learning activities from dozens of favorite educational software programs, all of which are correlated with Pennsylvania Academic Content Standards and National Education Standards in math and language arts. Because of this tight correlation, districts have successfully purchased the curriculum using Title II, Part D funds as allocated by the No Child Left Behind Act The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (Public Law 107-110), commonly known as NCLB (IPA: /ˈnɪkəlbiː/), is a United States federal law that was passed in the House of Representatives on May 23, 2001  of "2001" (NCLB NCLB No Child Left Behind (US education initiative) ) for purchase of materials that are effective resources for improving student academic achievement.

Classworks is also specifically aligned with the five key components of reading instruction: phonemic awareness Phonemic Awareness is a subset of phonological awareness in which listeners are able to distinguish phonemes, the smallest units of sound that can differentiate meaning. For example, a listener with phonemic awareness can break the word "Cat" into three separate phonemes: /k/, /a/, , phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension, as defined by the National Institute for Literacy and the Partnership for Reading. This alignment ensures that Classworks is an effective curriculum and remediation resource to address guidelines of the Reading First Initiative and NCLB, which focus on early literacy. An independent review with the Consumer's Guide to Evaluating a Core Reading Program Grades K-3: A Critical Elements Analysis further ensures that Classworks is a Reading First solution.

"Classworks is true data-driven curriculum resource that is made up of all those favorite software and learning tools that teachers are familiar with," said Mr. Lindsey Cook, president of Curriculum Advantage. "This newest import utility created especially for Pennsylvania--and like the other import utilities we have created for Florida, Georgia, Texas, and Illinois--puts the power of data-driven, prescriptive learning directly into teachers' hands."

Curriculum Advantage has received recognition from education leadership organizations which applaud the company's commitment to developing state-specific editions, correlated with state standards, and that use state assessment data for prescriptive learning. Classworks now offers import utilities for five states including Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Texas and Pennsylvania. The import utility for Florida was launched in September and the Texas-specific version with import features has been in use since 1999. In addition to the import versions, Classworks offers 13 state editions that are correlated with those states' specific learning standards Learning Standards is a term used to describe standards applied to education content, particularly in the US K-12 space.

The Learning Standards themselves can can be found on the individual web sites for states [1]
. In September 2003, the Florida School Boards Association selected Classworks as one of the premier curriculum library and remediation tools of choice for the Florida elementary and middle schools. The Georgia Association of Educational Leaders, the Illinois Association of School Administrators and the Texas Association of School Administrators have also recognized Classworks as an effective curriculum resource for their state's schools.
