Verdant Power Verdant Power is a maker and installer of tidal power and hydroelectric systems. Their primary device is an underwater turbine, similar to a three-bladed wind turbine, that is designed to capture energy from tidal currents and (precipitation-driven) river currents. on New York's East River is a case in point. The company is installing two underwater propeller-type turbines in a small pilot project and will spend the next 18 months studying the effects of the prototype on fish. If the results are positive, a further four turbines will be added. "If all goes well," says company co-founder Trey Taylor, "we could have about 300 turbines in the river by 2008." |
