in a debut novel by author Jae Gordon of Los Angeles. Ready the Eight, completed in 1998, eerily outlined the simultaneous suicide missions of eight Islamic terrorists bent on crippling Western society by destroying U.S. and European landmarks.

"Movies, television and books are extremely effective sources of information about terrorism," she said. "We need to go beyond what's politically correct politically correct Politically sensitive adjective Referring to language reflecting awareness and sensitivity to another person's physical, mental, cultural, or other disadvantages or deviations from a norm; a person is not mentally retarded, but  and start talking about why popular culture won't acknowledge the enemy. The Anti-Terrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act of 1996, as amended by the usa patriot act  is unlikely."

Ironically, Gordon completed the novel in May 1998, about one month before seeing an interview of Osama bin Laden Osama bin Laden: see bin Laden, Osama.  on "Nightline." "He was threatening to attack America and other western countries for being enemies of God. I turned to my husband and said, 'My book's villain is being interviewed by Ted Koppel.'"

The novel is a riveting thriller that starts out in the Middle East and takes the reader on a breathtaking chase around the globe as its heroine, Nadine Kanner, tries to decode the cryptic messages she's discovered about an impending im·pend

The book was originally set to take place September 2001, but when 9/11 hit, Gordon decided it was simply too painful to market. Still, the manuscript continued to circulate and the response was always the same: publish. "The only change I made was to the book's timeline," she said. "It now takes place in 1998, when I actually completed the manuscript. Sadly, the plot is now history."

Ready the Eight was awarded its publisher's Editor's Choice designation. The book is available through bookstores and online at Amazon, BarnesandNoble.com and other online vendors.
