Cummins Westport Receives National Partner of the Year Award from U.S. Clean Cities Program.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- Cummins Westport today announced that it has received the National Partner of the Year Award from the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Clean Cities Program. The award recognizes Cummins Westport's leadership in alternative fuel engine development and deployment.

Cummins Westport was nominated by an independent panel made up of DOE, Clean Cities Program, and industry representation. The mission of the Clean Cities Program is to advance the United States' economic and environmental performance and energy security, by supporting local decisions that contribute to the reduction of petroleum consumption. Nearly 90 Clean Cities coalitions across the United States work to develop markets for vehicles powered by alternatives to conventional gasoline and diesel fuels, as well as for other petroleum reduction technologies.

Saw highlighted Cummins Westport's next-generation 8.9 litre natural gas engine development program as evidence of the company's committment to improving natural gas engines. Important design parameters for the engine will include improved fuel efficiency, reliability, lower total ownership costs as well as a full range of ratings to meet customer and manufacturer requirements. He reiterated that the new Cummins Westport natural gas engine will meet 2010 emissions standards for oxides of nitrogen (NOx) of 0.2 g/bhp-hr and 0.01 g/bhp-hr of particulate matter at its launch in 2007.
