Cummins Westport Awarded $690,000 for ISL G Low Emissions Engine Development; Prototype Engine Featured at APTA in Dallas, Texas.


VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- Cummins Westport Inc. (CWI) today announced it has been awarded $690,000 in funding from the South Coast Air Quality Management District The South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD), formed in 1976, is the air pollution agency responsible mainly for regulating stationary sources of air pollution for most of Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Riverside County, and all of Orange county.  (SCAQMD) for CWI's previously announced ISL G engine product development program. The ISL G natural gas engine, for medium-duty truck, refuse and urban transit markets, is scheduled for commercial launch in 2007.

Development of the new ISL G natural gas engine, which is also funded with an initial $600,000 from the U.S. Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), located in Golden, Colorado, as part of the U.S. Department of Energy, is the United States' primary laboratory for renewable energy and energy efficiency research and development. , is already well underway. OEM integration work for the 2007 ISL G has been initiated and pre-commercial demonstration in southern California, SCAQMD's jurisdiction, will begin in the coming months.

In May 2004, Cummins Westport introduced the L Gas Plus, which is the platform for Cummins Westport's next generation natural gas engines. The current L Gas Plus is rated at 320 horsepower and 1,000 lb-ft torque and is capable of meeting 2007 EPA standards for NOx and PM.
