Cummins Names Intermec as Preferred Provider for Wireless Network Infrastructures, Mobile Computing Equipment and Automated Data Collection Systems Worldwide.

Intermec Technologies Corp. has signed an agreement with Cummins Inc. of Columbus, Ind., that makes Intermec the preferred supplier of wireless networking equipment and automated data collection systems to Cummins plants worldwide.

Cummins is best known as the world's largest manufacturer of diesel engines and power generating equipment. Its engines are found in products ranging from light duty trucks to heavy industrial equipment.

The supplier agreement allows Cummins to standardize automated data collection systems throughout its facilities and allows Cummins facilities to take advantage of the efficiencies and knowledge base available from already installed Intermec systems. Cummins selected Intermec based on its track record of reliability and value, its global presence and its ability to provide a complete range of automated data collection products and services.

Intermec has long provided wireless network technology, handheld data collection terminals, bar code label printers and bar code scanners to Cummins plants worldwide. Together with BPA Systems, an Intermec partner that provides Oracle Integration Software preloaded and configured for Intermec handheld terminals, Intermec hardware already is seamlessly integrated with Cummins' Oracle ERP systems.
